Travelling to peak district to meet some young renal patients and renal NHS workers, all of which were staying at Mount Cook Adventure Centre. It was a rest bite weekend with young patients from all over the country, and the aim of this weekend was so young renal patients could have a enjoyed outdoors adventure weekend but also to meet other renal patients of a similar age. Being a young renal patient can be quite a lonely thing, going into the renal department at hospital and being the other young one there isn't always the nicest experience for all. So this weekend was a chance for all the young patients to exchange experiences and stories and mainly realise that they're the only ones going through kidney treatment.
It was such a inspirational day with them all, many of which were a similar age to my self so it was quite eye opening as to what some of these people had already been through and are going through.
There was also a filming team there who were gathering footage of the patients during their activities and the footage will be going towards making a short promotion film, to raise awareness of these sort of weekends and show how beneficial and important they are for these patients and my job for the day was to take some stills with two of the groups. I was sent with my two groups down to Carsington Water were we had to team build and make a canoe raft and then we went sailing on the reservoir.
Being asked to be Kidney Care UK's photographer again at this adventure weekend was such a pleasure. We all had a great day and was so nice to meet some of the patients and listen to their stories.
