VOLUNTEERING @ FORMAT. March '19.

Updated: Apr 18, 2019

17/03/19.

From Sunday 17th March until Wednesday 20th March me, Beth, Shannon and Georgia all volunteered for FORMAT festival. It was a good few days away, the main roles we were responsible for was invigilating the venues where the festival was taking place. We just had to watch over the space and the artwork and also tally how many visitors were coming in, also to just be there presents for any visitors if they had any questions about the work on show.

We were also responsible for opening up and shutting down the venues at the start and end of each day. Making sure everything on the list was still there, all lights were off, everything was locked up and the artwork was presentable for the next day.

The volunteering leader, Katie had asked us on the second last day if there was anything else we wanted to do and get out of FORMAT while we were there and me and Beth said we were interested in the marketing side of the festival and QUAD and from this we were both lucky enough to have a chat with the main marketing guy from QUAD. We had a hour chat with him about what we are both interested in doing after uni and he told us how he got to where he is and what other jobs and projects he has be involved with. It was good to get tips from someone actually working in an industry we are both interested in.

Venues in Derby that we volunteered at included Derby Market place, St Wurberg's chapel, The Tramshed and Furthest From The Sea.

With us volunteering in the Market place for two of the days I was able to have a look around the market and I also saw some old archive images of this market which I found quite interested, in relation to me doing this last year as part of my final major project about Huddersfield open market.
